SUMMARY:Music Exploration: Ukulele
DESCRIPTION:Music Exploration is designed to foster creativity in a positive and supportive social environment. Participants will learn about different styles of music\, try out a variety of instruments\, improvise and make music together. Each session will be different to allow for maximum musical exploration\, but will always focus on creative expression and confidence\, ending with a group sing-along (lyrics will be provided). No prior music experience is necessary. Taught by Cheyenna (Chey) Eagle\, an MT-BC graduate with a degree in Music Therapy with a concentration on oboe. Chey specializes in working with children and adults with multiple disabilities and has taught adapted music lessons with a variety of instruments. She completed the Neurologic Music Therapy training through the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy and is an adapted music teacher at Powers Music School in Belmont. \nThis week\, we will explore a popular instrument: the ukulele! We will learn about its history\, how it is played\, ways people have adapted the instrument and play along with some beloved songs. Other handheld percussion instruments will also be available to use while playing along.

DESCRIPTION:Sensory-Enhanced Yoga® / SMYLE™-Inspired\nIn this four-class series\, yoga teacher Lynn Stoller will offer a gentle\, accessible form of Sensory-Enhanced Yoga® designed to support self-regulation\, relaxation\, body awareness and emotional wellbeing. The classes will incorporate modified practices and supportive visual materials inspired by the SMYLE™ (Sensory and Mindfulness-based Yoga for Learning Environments™) program\, co-created with former Cotting special educator Meg Hennessey Schofield. Practices may include breathing exercises\, mindful movement\, adaptable yoga forms\, relaxation techniques (including guided meditation) and sensory-based strategies designed to help participants feel calm\, focused and empowered. No previous yoga experience is necessary. Practices will be adapted to support a wide range of abilities and comfort levels.\n\n\n\nLynn Stoller\, MS\, OTR\, C-IAYT\, E-RYT 500\, is the founding president of the Sensory-Enhanced Yoga® Institute and a retired occupational therapist who worked at Cotting School for 36 years. Throughout her career\, she often incorporated yoga and sensory-based strategies into her work with students experiencing sensory processing challenges\, ADHD\, anxiety and related difficulties.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun and rhythmic dance class focused on creative movement and self expression. Participants will have the opportunity to improvise and show off their own style throughout the class. You do not need to be an experienced dancer of any kind to take this class. We will provide more information on what to bring and what to expect closer to the event date. \nThis class will be taught by Hannah Geller\, an instructor at The Dance Inn in Lexington. Hannah teaches students of all ages and has helped grow the studio’s adaptive dance programming. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Inclusive Education at Lesley University\, and is passionate about a lifetime of learning and spreading the joy and benefits of dance to all.

SUMMARY:Yoga and Mindfulness
DESCRIPTION:In this class\, you’ll be led through postures and poses from both a seated chair position and a standing or sitting position. There will be about 60 minutes of stretching and yoga poses and 30 minutes of mindfulness activities\, such as body scans\, meditations\, mindful work using our senses and deep breathing. We will provide the yoga mats\, and no experience is required. \nThis class will be taught by Biliana Angelova\, a therapist\, third generation yoga practitioner and beloved teacher in the Boston yoga community. Biliana is well-versed in adaptive yoga and has contributed to mindfulness research and practice at The Benson-Henry Mind Body Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital\, The Center for Anxiety Studies at Boston University and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She teaches community classes and specialized courses\, leads workshops and retreats and works with individual clients. She also skis\, swims\, doodle\, dances and loves to serve the creative in herself and everyone else.

To register for the full series\, please select one of the ticket options below. \nLearn how to make a pair of appetizer or dessert plates that complement each other in design by hand-building them out of clay. We’ll build the plates at the first session and paint them with glazes at the second session. \nThis class will be taught by artist and educator Julie Nussbaum. Julie has a diploma in fine arts\, is certified to teach K-12 and has worked with people of all ages and abilities.

Alison got her Master of Education at Lesley University and her bachelor’s in musical theater at University of New Hampshire.

DESCRIPTION:In our “Cooking Around the World” series\, you’ll learn about global culture and cuisine as we create a meal together and work on our independent cooking skills. Together\, we’ll explore language\, culture and history as we follow a recipe to make a traditional lunch typically eaten in another country. We’ll practice techniques such as dicing\, peeling and how to use a stove\, find ways to adapt the kitchen to meet individual needs and help you find the tools and equipment that work best for you. The price of the ticket includes a wonderful meal\, a helpful cooking guide and a recipe card to take home to your family. We will connect with you before the event to discuss allergies and preferences in order to pick a recipe that everyone will enjoy and will announce which dish we’ll be cooking closer to the event date. \nThis class will be taught by CTI Program Manager Erika Cain.
