DESCRIPTION:Daily Living Skills is designed to support the development of the capabilities needed for independent living. The curriculum strengthens executive functioning\, including decision making and the ability to organize the steps and sequences needed to complete various tasks. This program will be led by CTI Program Manager Erika Cain\, who has 10 years of special education teaching experience\, including four years specifically teaching transition skills. This series will focus on financial literacy\, covering topics like budgeting\, purchasing\, estimating when setting up a budget\, money management\, safety skills\, online banking and much more.

DESCRIPTION:Run by Cotting School Music & Performing Arts Teacher Alison McCarron\, this creative arts program teaches participants how to collaborate and build an original mini-musical from scratch. We’ll explore self-expression\, connection\, and confidence in a supportive environment through singing\, acting\, movement\, storytelling and simple art-making. The program wraps up with a joyful premiere performance of the original work we will have created together\, highlighting each participant’s contributions and celebrating the power of creativity and community. This program is designed for all experience levels and takes place over five weeks; while participants are not required to attend all five sessions\, we recommended that they do if they can.

SUMMARY:Music Exploration: Rock and Roll
DESCRIPTION:Music Exploration is designed to foster creativity in a positive and supportive social environment. Participants will learn about different styles of music\, try out a variety of instruments\, improvise and make music together. Each session will be different to allow for maximum musical exploration\, but will always focus on creative expression and confidence\, ending with a group sing-along (lyrics will be provided). No prior music experience is necessary. Taught by Cheyenna (Chey) Eagle\, an MT-BC graduate with a degree in Music Therapy with a concentration on oboe. Chey specializes in working with children and adults with multiple disabilities and has taught adapted music lessons with a variety of instruments. She completed the Neurologic Music Therapy training through the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy and is an adapted music teacher at Powers Music School in Belmont. \nThis week\, we invite you to rock out as we explore the sounds of classic rock bands! You’ll get to try out an electronic drum pad\, electric guitar and jam along to some great rock tunes.

SUMMARY:Yoga and Mindfulness
DESCRIPTION:Biliana Angelova\, M.A.\, M.Ed.\, will lead you class through postures and poses from both a seated chair position and a standing or sitting position. The class will feature about 60 minutes of stretching and yoga poses and 30 minutes of mindfulness activities\, such as body scans\, meditations\, mindful work using our senses and deep breathing. No experience is required and yoga mats are provided. Biliana is a therapist\, a third generation yoga practitioner and a beloved teacher in the Boston yoga community. She is well-versed in adaptive yoga and has contributed to mindfulness research and practice at The Benson-Henry Mind Body Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital\, The Center for Anxiety Studies at Boston University\, and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She teaches community classes and specialized courses\, leads workshops and retreats and works with individual clients. She also skies\, swims\, doodles and dances and loves to serve the creative in herself and everyone else.

SUMMARY:Dance Class: Tap & Hip Hop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a dance class taught by Nicole (Chaput) Holloway\, Assistant Director of The Dance Inn in Lexington. Nicole has been dancing for about 30 years and completed her undergraduate degree in dance from Arizona State University. A former Cotting staff member\, she has taught dance for years and specializes in teaching adaptive dance. \nThis week’s dance class will feature two dance styles: tap and hip-hop. It will be fun\, funky and rhythmic\, with many opportunities for participants to improvise and show off their own style. You do not need to be an experienced dancer of any kind to take this class. We will provide more information on what to bring and what to expect closer to the event date.

DESCRIPTION:Lughnasadh (pronounced LOO-nuh-suh) is a Gaelic festival held annually on August 1 to mark the beginning of the harvest season. You will have the opportunity to learn more about Lughnasadh and bake traditional breads and treats that are often enjoyed on this special day. No prior baking experience necessary. You will leave with a recipe packet and informaton about the holiday. We will adapt the recipes we pick to meet the dietary needs of all participants.
