Frequently Asked Questions
CTI’s programs and services are open to individuals (ages 22+) with intellectual and developmental disabilities, communication disorders, neurological impairments and autism spectrum disorder. Cotting Upper School and Capstone program students (ages 18-22) may also participate.
CTI does not offer all day programming. However, we do offer social, recreational and educational events, group, and activities that run at various times throughout the week.
CTI staff will help participants engage in games and activities as needed and as often as they are available. However, if a participant needs 1:1 support for the duration of the activity with daily living skills such as toileting, feeding, hygiene or medical needs, the participant is required to bring a PCA.
No, CTI does not have nurses on staff.
Yes, all staff members are trained and certified in CPR and First Aid, on how to use an Epipen and have an awareness of seizure protocols. Please Note: In the event of a medical emergency, our staff will call 911 and provide lifesaving measures (e.g., CPR, First Aid) while waiting for EMS to arrive. Staff will also call participants emergency contacts.
No. You have the option to sign up for events a la carte. However, members receive additional benefits, including a 10% discount on events and early registration access. Learn more on our Membership page.
You must sign up through our website to become a member and/or register to attend an event. However, all new participants are required to set up a meeting with CTI staff to discuss our programming and their needs. Therefore, we highly recommend that you either attend one of our monthly information sessions or contact us to arrange a private tour.
In the event a concern arises, our staff will come up with a plan in response and set up a meeting with the participant and their caregiver. After that, if the concern continues to not be addressed according to what is agreed upon at that meeting, the participant may no longer be allowed to participate in CTI’s programs and services.
It varies based on the program or activity. We aim to have at least two staff members for every 10 participants registered and will increase the number of staff as needed.
Yes, we do allow participants to bring a trained service animal. CTI follows guidelines provided through the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in relation to service animals.
Yes, we have events where food is served, including cooking classes. We are a nut free facility. We also allow participants to bring their own food for snacks and meals, as appropriate.
Yes. The cost varies based on event type and staffing and supplies needed. Our members also receive a 10% discount on events. Financial assistance is available, and individuals can use DDS Funding to pay for our programs.
Yes, you must register in advance and event registration closes the day before.
Contact our Program Manager to let them know if you cannot attend an event. Unfortunately, we are unable to reimburse event fees or apply them towards another event.
Our doors open 15 minutes before an event is scheduled to begin. If you arrive earlier than that, you are welcome to wait in our entranceway lobby, located on the west side of the building on the first floor, until the doors open.
No. Unless otherwise notified by CTI staff in advance, please come directly to the CTI building and remain there for the duration of the event.
You are responsible for arranging transportation to and from CTI events. If your ride is late, our staff will assist you by confirming your transportation is on the way and will stay with you until your ride arrives. We ask that all pickups happen within 15 minutes of the event’s scheduled conclusion.
If an event is cancelled for any reason (e.g., bad weather), our staff will contact you by phone or email to let you know. We make every effort to reschedule cancelled events. Refunds will be issued at our discretion.
No. All of our events take place in the CTI building or elsewhere on the Cotting School campus.
