It’s one of the trickiest parts of clay. This tile class is designed to help you get over your fear of glazing and learn the basics of low fire glazes. We will look at some different ways of making tiles and you can select from our premade designs or get a blank tile to make your own design. We will talk about resists and you can try some out. We will all glaze some amazing tiles. Nicole Holloway has taught dance for years\, specializing in adaptive dance since working for over 5 years as a Cotting School staff member. \nThis week’s dance class will be looking into the genres of jazz and ballet. Participants will learn the fundamentals of two classic dance styles\, develop some technical skills and have fun learning choreography. It will be rescheduled to another date in the winter.  \nFeel it\, understand it and find your calm—one emotion at a time.\nLed by Meg Hennessey Schofield-a special educator\, prior Cotting teacher\, E-RYT 200\, YACEP\, mindfulness instructor and Director of the SMYLE™ Program: Sensory and Mindfulness-Based Yoga for Learning Environments—this class helps young adults with disabilities build emotional regulation skills through sensory-informed yoga and mindfulness. \nEach session focuses on one “big emotion”—sadness\, fear or anger—guiding participants to notice body sensations\, understand their feelings and use targeted tools to feel calmer\, more focused and in control. Participants leave each session with a printed yoga sequence and a list of quick\, portable strategies to use anytime\, anywhere. \nMeg co-authored Sensory-Enhanced Yoga® for Children and Adolescents with former Cotting colleague Lynn Stoller (Amazon link) and provides professional trainings for OTs\, PTs\, social workers\, therapists\, school educators\, yoga teachers and parents on the SMYLE™ Program through the Sensory Enhanced Yoga® Institute.

Together we will learn about music and how it can be used to help us better understand ourselves. Music is a powerful tool that can help us express ourselves authentically\, build a deeper self-awareness and connect with others. Group members will participate in instrument exploration\, improvisation and songwriting all while in a supportive environment that promotes freedom and creativity. Each session will be different to allow for maximum musical exploration\, but will always be focused on supporting creativity\, expression and confidence. No prior music experience is necessary.  \nJoin in the music\, join in the fun!  \nClass goals:  \n\nGroup members will be exposed to new instruments and music styles to deepen their appreciation and engagement with music on a day-to-day basis\nGroup members will creative ways to express themselves musically\nGroup members will be supported while working on confidence and leadership skills through musical experiences \n\nMusic Exploration will be led by Cheyenna (Chey) Eagle\, MT-BC graduate with a degree in Music Therapy\, with a concentration on oboe. Chey specializes in working with children and adults with multiple disabilities and has taught adapted music lessons with a variety of instruments. She completed the Neurologic Music Therapy training through the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. SUMMARY:First Aid Course
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a First Aid Workshop with an organization called Take Care. Through taking this course you will learn about shock\, burns\, cuts\, stroke\, choking and general emergency scenarios. You will get to work with safety and emergency equipment throughout the class\, really opening your eyes to what you’d do in an emergency. This course is taught by Patti MacPhee\, a certified CPR and First Aid instructor and the founder of Take Care. The purpose of this organization is to empower people with disabilities with the skills they need to improve their safety and well-being. All course will be adapted to meet the needs of the participants. This course is First Aid ONLY\, CPR is not included. You will leave this course with an understanding of first aid and emergency scenarios and will set you up to get certified if you would like to continue on to that step. While attending this workshop you will be provided with soda\, water and pizza that will be had on a dinner break.

It will be rescheduled to another date in the winter.  \nFeel it\, understand it\, and find your calm—one emotion at a time.\nLed by Meg Hennessey Schofield—a special educator\, prior Cotting teacher\, E-RYT 200\, YACEP\, mindfulness instructor and Director of the SMYLE™ Program: Sensory and Mindfulness-Based Yoga for Learning Environments—this class helps young adults with disabilities build emotional regulation skills through sensory-informed yoga and mindfulness. \nEach session focuses on one “big emotion”—sadness\, fear or anger—guiding participants to notice body sensations\, understand their feelings and use targeted tools to feel calmer\, more focused and in control. Participants leave each session with a printed yoga sequence and a list of quick\, portable strategies to use anytime\, anywhere. \nMeg co-authored Sensory-Enhanced Yoga® for Children and Adolescents with former Cotting colleague Lynn Stoller (Amazon link) and provides professional trainings for OTs\, PTs\, social workers\, therapists\, school educators\, yoga teachers and parents on the SMYLE™ Program through the Sensory Enhanced Yoga® Institute.

SUMMARY:All Needs Planning Online Caregiver Seminar
DESCRIPTION:This online caregiver’s seminar will be led by Mary McDirmid\, ChSNC\, of All Needs Planning. When Mary isn’t helping families navigate the world of special needs financial planning\, she is being a wife to Jay and a mom to Charlie and Ruth. In addition to her leadership role at All Needs Planning and a volunteer advocate for kids with rare diseases. She takes the title “Mom Boss’ seriously\, just ask her! Mary understands the emotional and financial aspects of caring for a loved one with a disability because she is the parent of a child with a rare disease. \nThis workshop helps families understand the numerous stages to be considered while developing a special needs action plan for their loved one experiencing a disability. Top considerations we hear and help our clients with: government benefits\, funding their lifetime\, tax efficiency\, insurance\, housing\, employment\, trusts\, ABLE and estate planning.  We believe that our clients are very capable of doing this planning\, the emotional aspect cannot be overstated as the biggest culprit in procrastinating.  Being understanding of how math\, emotion and habits intersect is our specialty. \n

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a dance class with the experienced and talented Nicole Holloway\, the assistant director of The Dance Inn in Lexington. Nicole has been dancing for about 30 years and completed her undergraduate degree in dance from Arizona State University. Nicole Holloway has taught dance for years\, specializing in adaptive dance since working for over 5 years as a Cotting School staff member. \nThis week’s dance class will be looking into the genres of jazz and ballet. Participants will learn the fundamentals of two classic dance styles\, develop some technical skills and have fun learning choreography. SUMMARY:Cooking Around the World: Lunch
DESCRIPTION:Join us at CTI to learn about cultures from around the world and the cuisines they eat.  We will learn a little bit about the language and about the country the dish comes from and the history of the dish itself. Then you will follow a recipe in order to make the dish with your friends\, working on your independent cooking skills. During this class you will learn to make a traditional lunch eaten in another country. The price of the ticket includes a wonderful meal and a recipe card to take home to your family. Allergies and preferences will be discussed before cooking begins\, in order to pick a recipe that everyone will enjoy. \nSupport for this event was provided in part by a grant from the Community Endowment of Lexington\, an endowed fund of the Foundation for MetroWest.

DESCRIPTION:The Music Exploration class is a group designed to foster creativity and self-expression through the wonderful world of music. Together we will learn about music and how it can be used to help us better understand ourselves. Music is a powerful tool that can help us express ourselves authentically\, build a deeper self-awareness and connect with others. Group members will participate in instrument exploration\, improvisation and songwriting all while in a supportive environment that promotes freedom and creativity. Each session will be different to allow for maximum musical exploration\, but will always be focused on supporting creativity\, expression and confidence. No prior music experience is necessary.  \nJoin in the music\, join in the fun!  \nClass goals:  \n\nGroup members will be exposed to new instruments and music styles to deepen their appreciation and engagement with music on a day-to-day basis\nGroup members will creative ways to express themselves musically\nGroup members will be supported while working on confidence and leadership skills through musical experiences \n\nMusic Exploration will be led by Cheyenna (Chey) Eagle\, MT-BC graduate with a degree in Music Therapy\, with a concentration on oboe. Chey specializes in working with children and adults with multiple disabilities and has taught adapted music lessons with a variety of instruments. She completed the Neurologic Music Therapy training through the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. Chey is an adapted music teacher at Powers Music School in Belmont. \nSupport for this event was provided in part by a grant from the Community Endowment of Lexington\, an endowed fund of the Foundation for MetroWest.
