It will be rescheduled to another date in the winter.  \nFeel it\, understand it and find your calm—one emotion at a time.\nLed by Meg Hennessey Schofield-a special educator\, prior Cotting teacher\, E-RYT 200\, YACEP\, mindfulness instructor and Director of the SMYLE™ Program: Sensory and Mindfulness-Based Yoga for Learning Environments—this class helps young adults with disabilities build emotional regulation skills through sensory-informed yoga and mindfulness. \nEach session focuses on one “big emotion”—sadness\, fear or anger—guiding participants to notice body sensations\, understand their feelings and use targeted tools to feel calmer\, more focused and in control. Participants leave each session with a printed yoga sequence and a list of quick\, portable strategies to use anytime\, anywhere. \nMeg co-authored Sensory-Enhanced Yoga® for Children and Adolescents with former Cotting colleague Lynn Stoller (Amazon link) and provides professional trainings for OTs\, PTs\, social workers\, therapists\, school educators\, yoga teachers and parents on the SMYLE™ Program through the Sensory Enhanced Yoga® Institute.

DESCRIPTION:The Music Exploration class is a group designed to foster creativity and self-expression through the wonderful world of music. Together we will learn about music and how it can be used to help us better understand ourselves. Music is a powerful tool that can help us express ourselves authentically\, build a deeper self-awareness and connect with others. Group members will participate in instrument exploration\, improvisation and songwriting all while in a supportive environment that promotes freedom and creativity. Each session will be different to allow for maximum musical exploration\, but will always be focused on supporting creativity\, expression and confidence. No prior music experience is necessary.  \nJoin in the music\, join in the fun!  \nClass goals:  \n\nGroup members will be exposed to new instruments and music styles to deepen their appreciation and engagement with music on a day-to-day basis\nGroup members will creative ways to express themselves musically\nGroup members will be supported while working on confidence and leadership skills through musical experiences \n\nMusic Exploration will be led by Cheyenna (Chey) Eagle\, MT-BC graduate with a degree in Music Therapy\, with a concentration on oboe. Chey specializes in working with children and adults with multiple disabilities and has taught adapted music lessons with a variety of instruments. She completed the Neurologic Music Therapy training through the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. DESCRIPTION:Drop-In with a Friend Night is similar to our drop-in lounge events\, providing young adults (with the support of a PCA/parent/caregiver\, if applicable) the opportunity to hang out at the CTI with their friends\, play board games/pool and grab a slice of pizza. The difference with this special event is that when you purchase your ticket\, you will be able to bring one friend free of charge (please purchase only one ticket and you will receive entrance for 2 people).  Do you know someone who has been interested in learning more about CTI or who wants to make new friends\, well bring them along. Then you will follow a recipe in order to make the dish with your friends\, working on your independent cooking skills. During this class you will learn to make a traditional dinner eaten in another country. The price of the ticket includes a wonderful meal and a recipe card to take home to your family. Nicole Holloway has taught dance for years\, specializing in adaptive dance since working for over 5 years as a Cotting School staff member. \nThis week’s dance class will be looking into the genres of tap and hip-hop. These two dance styles will be fun\, funky and rhythmic with many opportunities for participants to improvise and show off their own style. SUMMARY:First Aid Course
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a First Aid Workshop with an organization called Take Care. Through taking this course you will learn about shock\, burns\, cuts\, stroke\, choking and general emergency scenarios. You will get to work with safety and emergency equipment throughout the class\, really opening your eyes to what you’d do in an emergency. This course is taught by Patti MacPhee\, a certified CPR and First Aid instructor and the founder of Take Care. The purpose of this organization is to empower people with disabilities with the skills they need to improve their safety and well-being. All course will be adapted to meet the needs of the participants. This course is First Aid ONLY\, CPR is not included. You will leave this course with an understanding of first aid and emergency scenarios and will set you up to get certified if you would like to continue on to that step. While attending this workshop you will be provided with soda\, water and pizza that will be had on a dinner break.

SUMMARY:Creativity with Clay: Making Pinch Pots (Part 2 of 2)
DESCRIPTION:This is the second day of a two-part series all about getting our hands into the clay. Everyone will get their own clay to work with. We will start with producing our pinch pots and applying surface decoration to them with stamps\, sgraffito\, rollers and techniques of your choice. The second day\, we will glaze the bisqued pots. We will have a range of glazes available for that perfect pot. This series of classes will be taught by Julie Nussbaum\, who has a diploma in fine arts\, is certified to teach K-12 and has worked with people of all ages and abilities. SUMMARY:Creativity with Clay: Making Pinch Pots (Part 1 of 2)
DESCRIPTION:This is the first day of a two-part series all about getting our hands into the clay. Everyone will get their own clay to work with. We will start with producing our pinch pots and applying surface decoration to them with stamps\, sgraffito\, rollers and techniques of your choice. The second day\, we will glaze the bisqued pots. We will have a range of glazes available for that perfect pot. This series of classes will be taught by Julie Nussbaum\, who has a diploma in fine arts\, is certified to teach K-12 and has worked with people of all ages and abilities. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a dance class with the experienced and talented Nicole Holloway\, the assistant director of The Dance Inn in Lexington. Nicole has been dancing for about 30 years and completed her undergraduate degree in dance from Arizona State University. Nicole Holloway has taught dance for years\, specializing in adaptive dance since working for over 5 years as a Cotting School staff member. \nThis week’s dance class will be looking into the genres of tap and hip-hop. These two dance styles will be fun\, funky and rhythmic with many opportunities for participants to improvise and show off their own style. SUMMARY:Drop-In Lounge: Halloween Party
DESCRIPTION:Our drop-in lounge events provide young adults (with the support of a PCA/parent/caregiver\, if applicable) the opportunity to hang out at the CTI with their friends\, play board games/pool and grab a slice of pizza\, which is included in the price. If you attend and would like to bring your own food (instead of eating pizza)\, you are welcome to do so. \nThis particular drop-in will be special because we will be celebrating Halloween together. Please come dressed in a costume if you would like to participate in a costume contest (with prizes!). We will also have candy to share\, creepy music and spooky games to play together. Pumpkins will be provided for painting for those who wish to participate.

SUMMARY:Music Exploration
DESCRIPTION:The Music Exploration class is a group designed to foster creativity and self-expression through the wonderful world of music. Together we will learn about music and how it can be used to help us better understand ourselves. Music is a powerful tool that can help us express ourselves authentically\, build a deeper self-awareness and connect with others. Group members will participate in instrument exploration\, improvisation and songwriting all while in a supportive environment that promotes freedom and creativity. Each session will be different to allow for maximum musical exploration\, but will always be focused on supporting creativity\, expression and confidence. No prior music experience is necessary. \nJoin in the music\, join in the fun!  \nClass goals:  \n\nGroup members will be exposed to new instruments and music styles to deepen their appreciation and engagement with music on a day-to-day basis\nGroup members will creative ways to express themselves musically\nGroup members will be supported while working on confidence and leadership skills through musical experiences \n\nMusic Exploration will be led by Cheyenna (Chey) Eagle\, MT-BC graduate with a degree in Music Therapy\, with a concentration on oboe. Chey specializes in working with children and adults with multiple disabilities and has taught adapted music lessons with a variety of instruments. She completed the Neurologic Music Therapy training through the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. Chey is an adapted music teacher at Powers Music School in Belmont.

DESCRIPTION:Feel it\, understand it\, and find your calm—one emotion at a time.\nLed by Meg Hennessey Schofield—a special educator\, prior Cotting teacher\, E-RYT 200\, YACEP\, mindfulness instructor and Director of the SMYLE™ Program: Sensory and Mindfulness-Based Yoga for Learning Environments—this class helps young adults with disabilities build emotional regulation skills through sensory-informed yoga and mindfulness. \nEach session focuses on one “big emotion”—sadness\, fear\, or anger—guiding participants to notice body sensations\, understand their feelings and use targeted tools to feel calmer\, more focused and in control. Participants leave each session with a printed yoga sequence and a list of quick\, portable strategies to use anytime\, anywhere. \nMeg co-authored Sensory-Enhanced Yoga® for Children and Adolescents with former Cotting colleague Lynn Stoller (Amazon link) and provides professional trainings for OTs\, PTs\, social workers\, therapists\, school educators\, yoga teachers\, and parents on the SMYLE™ Program through the Sensory Enhanced Yoga® Institute.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at CTI to learn about cultures from around the world and the cuisines they eat.  We will learn a little bit about the language and about the country the dish comes from and the history of the dish itself. Then you will follow a recipe in order to make the dish with your friends\, working on your independent cooking skills. During this class you will learn to make a traditional breakfast eaten in another country. The price of the ticket includes a wonderful meal and a recipe card to take home to your family. DESCRIPTION:Caregiver Body Mechanics with Dr. Paige Ryan\n\nWe will be joined by Paige Ryan\, Doctor of Physical Therapy and founder of Foundation First Physical Therapy. Paige offers in-home pediatric PT\, equipment evaluations and a 6-month caregiver coaching program to support families raising children with disabilities.\n\nAt this seminar\, we’ll focus on caregiver body mechanics — how to lift\, move and carry in ways that protect your body and prevent injury. You’ll also learn a few simple exercises that can help you stay strong and supported in your caregiving role. \nWe’ll wrap up with a short mindfulness/relaxation practice so you can leave feeling refreshed and at ease. A Q&A will follow\, so bring your questions! \nThis session is intended for caregivers only. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the CTI for a Guided Paint Night where participants follow along with an art instructor to create their own unique piece of artwork. Our art instructor for this event will be Aly Robinson\, a former Cotting staff member\, as well as a former Muse Paint Bar employee. Aly is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor\, as well as a trained Art Educator with a degree from MassArt. She will walk us through step-by-step instructions and demonstrations\, ensuring that everyone can complete the painting\, regardless of their skill level. The focus is on having fun and expressing oneself creatively\, rather than producing a masterpiece. All supplies will be provided\, such as canvases\, paints/brushes and aprons to protect your clothing. Please dress in clothes that are okay to get paint on them\, just in case. All attendees will leave this event with a beautifully painted canvas.
